How to partition XP Pro disc without reformatting

Just bought this used Dell 670 with XP Pro loaded. Nothing else is on it
yet. How do I partition the drive for optimal performance. It's 80 Gig.
Also, how much should I partition? Thanks

With a drive that small, having only a single partition makes sense.
On a somewhat different note, you've asked your XP question in a discussion
group for .NET programming issues, and you'll get more/better feedback if
you ask in a group for XP. Here's how to find the group(s) you need.

As you appear to be using a web interface, visit this page:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/

In the tree on the left, open English, then open Windows. In the
Windows subcategory, find and open the subcategory for Windows XP, and
find a group there for your post.

Dynamic disk is built in, but they have to have set it up to use it. Then
you also have to have the disk defragged where everything is off the space
you wish to use for a second partition. If you end up screwing things up,
you can always reinstall. On most computers these days, do not delete the
current second partition, as it contains your reinstall bits.

Why do you want a second partition anyway? If for performance, you will not
really gain much, if any, as both are on the same disk. If to more easily
back up your files, I can see that. Just curious. As the other poster
posted, 80GB is a bit small to chunk up, at least these days.

Peace and Grace,

At 80 Gb, don't repartition.

Mike.

Have in the past, would not today. Funny how having more bandwidth changes
your view o fthe world. ;-)
