Wireless Trouble

I went home for the Christmas break and I am trying to get my laptop to connect to the network back at my house. I set up a wireless network through the main computer and have found nothing but problems. The main computer is running XP and I am running Vista. Now, the problem is my computer will detect there is a wireless network available but it will not connect. It let me enter in a password to connect but it tells me there isn't enough strength to connect. This makes no sense due to the fact that it will display 90% network strength. Any suggestions you have would be great. Thank you for your time and help.

I downloaded the program and I am still running into problems. I enter in the password and it will start to connect but it will just sit there until it times out then it won't connect. Thanks for the help but, I still need a little more.

From all I ever heard about vista laptops not connecting to the wireless routers is to update the firmware on the router to resolve the issue. I know this has worked for some. Might want to try it.

Is your laptop a ThinkPad or from a known brand?

It's possible there are third party protection utilities running that you are unaware of.

With the ThinkPad for example: ThinkVantage disconnects File a Print sharing at every reboot

Hi mate. Nice to know. Could you tell us how you fixed the problem so that others may know if they have the same trouble. Thanks.

I had to reset the settings on my router. Once I took the password off and made it an unsecured network it worked fine. I live in the middle of the country so we aren't concerned about people being able to get onto the network. Hope it helps.
