F11 - no longer full screen

Hey there,

Up until 2 weeks ago when I was browsing and hit F11, the display would go full screen. No menus, no toolbars, no taskbars, nothing.

Now when I hit F11, all of my tabs, the address bar, & the menu bar remain. I'd like them gone again.

I've read a bit about auto-hide, but that seems to only work on the taskbar.

Help.

Re: F11 - no longer full screen

Hi Dynna,

See if these couple of things will work for you. They have the same affect as pressing F11.

1. Press ALT+ENTER

2. Click on the Tools (Gear) icon on the toolbar and click on Full Screen.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: F11 - no longer full screen

Nope, but thanks. Those are just shortkeys to go full screen. The browser just WON'T go 'full'.

Re: F11 - no longer full screen

Dynna,

Well, it was worth a shot. Did you install anything (EX:IE7 add-on) or change any settings before this happened?

You can try resetting IE7 to see if that may help.

Internet Explorer - Reset

If not, you can do a System Restore to a restore point dated before this problem started.

System Restore - How to

Updated for this link to use:

Full Screen F11 - Enable or Disable Auto-Hide

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: F11 - no longer full screen

Hello Dynna,

If the above post doesn't help then you may try consulting this website. If all else fails, it recommends several different browsers that utilize the f11 feature, many of which are preferred by many over IE anyway.

Re: F11 - no longer full screen

Dynna, I had this same problem recently. Of course a recent update caused this because idiots complained to Microsoft about fullscreen and losing their menus. Too dumb to hit F11 I guess. Here's the fix: hit F11 and then right click just under the X button at the top right of the webpage. You should now see a dialog box that has autohide listed. Click autohide. Now all those tabs and menus will slide up out of the way. Hope this solves your problem.

Re: F11 - no longer full screen

Well, after all these weeks hearing about right-clicking on the top of the IE window, and autohide, AND having done it enough times to know it wasn't there, it FINALLY showed it's face.

Auto-hide clicked, and all is normal again.

Thanks again everyone.

Re: F11 - no longer full screen

Thanks Shephild, you hit the nail on the head. Sorry, other replies were just a little bit st**d. Use your brain a little bit next time before you jump to reply as in most cases the askers already tried the most obvious.

BTW, while some idiots complained to MSH*T about F11 and losing their menus, how idiotic MSH*T was to bring out such a stupid update? I believe I had this problem for the last few months and it wasted tons of my time. Think about this: which one is easier to do: 1) just hit F11 to toggle b/t fullscreen and non-full 2) hit F11 and right click the X and click auto-hide? To be honest with you, I never thought to right click X before.

Thank you MSH*T for such an excellent update!! You finally and successfully fooled me for such a long time and I may finally consider using other browsers!
