Help connecting to a private network!

Hi,

I am working with 3 computers that need to be networked together. 2 run vista and 1 runs XP.

One of the vista computers and the xp computer network together fine with no issues. The other vista computer is not connecting though. when I try to connect to one of the other machines I get an error message:

"network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not recieve a response."

it says it found a problem that cannot be resolved automatically and to contact my ISP or network admin.

but i figure there has got to be a setting or something I have wrong. at the moment I have no active firewall and all my settings are right for sharing, I've also checked my security settings and paused any that might be blocking the connection.

Does anyone know what could be causing only one computer to be unable to communicate with the others?
