Hey all, can I use a wireless router as a hard wired router. If so is there a difference in download speeds. I mean, in a wired router you get 10/100mbps, in a wireless you get up to half of that of download speed. So if I get a wireless router will it convert to a wired download speed.

802.11g speeds are 54Mbps MAX. The farther away from the router, the lower your speed (about 1Mbps at 300ft). 802.11b is 11Mbps MAX. 802.11n is about 250Mbps MAX, down to about 70Mbps at 300ft.

Yep, pecifically 802.11g products, which have a theoretical maximum throughput speed of 54Mbit/s, typically provide real-world speeds of 22Mbit/s to 24Mbit/s.
In contrast, Intel says it's seeing real-world speeds of 100Mbit/s to 140Mbit/s for 802.11n equipment being close from the router.

I know. But in the case of 802.11n, we're seeing real-world throughput of about 70 - 80Mbps with short hops. About 17 - 19MBps with 802.11g and about 22 - 25Mbps with 802.11a. Those can vary based on network setup and topography and that ever present radio interference.

In most cases and setups, higher MAX means higher throughput (except in the case of a vs. g where interference takes its toll on g).
