The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value:VPN connection failure

Hi all, I'm running Vista Sp1 and am frequently using VPN connections to our clients. All of a sudden, I'm unable to create a VPN connection. If I look in Event Viewer under administrative events, I read the following message: 'The initial Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol request could not be successfully sent to the server. This can be due to network connectivity issues or certificate (trust) issues. The detailed error message is provided below. Correct the problem and try again. The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value.' What certificate is Vista talking about and how can I fix it ? Any other hints/tips? Thanks in advance.

Hey Freek12000,

You can try System Restore and it will fix it automatically, If your using a custom security certificate it may be corrupted/compromised on that machine and preventing connection, Can you check the server logs for any additional infomation?

Hi Steven,

thanks for your reply, but I don't use a custom security certificate and it's a local issue. I don't get to the server. I checked the logs on it and there's nothing in it, and to be sure that it's a local issue, I monitored traffic on our outgoing ISA-server. It's a local issue.

It might be some antivirus or firewall software conflicting with the VPN passthough...Try system restore and see if it happens again...

Re: The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value:VPN connection failure

Yes I can use system restore to get back to a position where I can create VPN-connections, but that leaves open the question what caused my VPN-connections to fail ? I'm talking about my work computer, and there's no malicious software or something like that installed, Vista just suddenly (as it seemed to me) stopped creating VPN-connections. So I rather concentrate on the error Vista is giving and try to fix that : 'The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value'. Anyone ?
