Network Identification slow

Everytime i boot my pc, my network is listed as "identifying" for about a minute, is there a way to make my pc remember instead of having to do it everytime i boot up, im sure when i first installed vista, it didnt last as long.

Also, this happens when resuming from sleep, but after about 30 seconds disconnects completely for another 30.

Im thinking that when i killed some services, one has caused vista to start doing this

Re: Network Identification slow

Hey guys,

Yeah resuming from sleep mode does make it rescan for awhile...How badly do you want it to remember the last zone because you shouldn't see it more than once or twice a day at most?

Windows Firewall with Advanced Security can permanently set the zones Vista uses by default.

It depends how often your constantly turning your computer on and off, If its only once a day I don't think its worth changing it on a permanent basis?

Re: Network Identification slow

Thats a huge waste of energy turning the computer off and on constantly (300+ Watt desktop lightbulb)

Open Control Panel then open Administrative Tools then Windows Firewall with Advanced Security and change the default firewall state to "off" with inbound and outbound connections set to "allow"...You will need todo this for each zone.
A firewall is not necessary if you have ADSL as the router preforms all the firewalling for you.

How does it go?

Re: Network Identification slow

Hey Fieseler,

Yeah most computers during boot and shutdown will run at max power and if your constantly turning the computer on and off its the same as turning a 300+Watt light on and off which wastes heaps of power compared to letting Vista use its own power options in control panel to allow the computer to adjust its power use depending on what applications your running...It does really well saving heaps of power check it out.
