Re: No internet no networking

OK, just to know if your system requires a telephone connection?

Re: No internet no networking

Hey Natalie,

1. type regedit into the start-menu searchbox and open it
2. goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}

{GUID} refers to the long set of numbers used to identify each network card used in your computer, you will need to add and change the following settings on each GUID folder...(that means all the folders found with a long string of numbers)

4. Add a new DWORD (32bit) value and rename it to “DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle” without the "" and its case sensitive!

5. Modify the “DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle” key and change the value to “1″.

6. Modify the “DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag” key and change the value to “0″.

7. Reboot and test the connection again with DHCP.

Just remember you need to add and change them keys on each GUID numbered folder under interfaces in the registry...

Let me know how it works out
Steven

Read about it here: Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers

Hello, thank you for your replys. I did call my ISP (my isp is a small company) and the guy that owns the ISP is going to work on it. Its so weird cuz all of our other computers, we have 4 others, can get right on the internet, no problem. I have another computer that is doing the same thing, wont get the dhcp # and the internet worked 1 day.
We also don't have a router, the cable goes from the satellite dish to a switch box to our computers, thats it.
Thanks again,
Natalie

Is there a brand name on the "Switch Box" that you have?

Re: No internet no networking

I did the regedit, adding a dword and that didn't do anything.

Re: No internet no networking

The Lynksys is not a router, its a Linksys 5 port 10/100 switch.

5-Port 10/100 Switch
Click the image to open in full size.
  • Five autosensing 10/100 switched ports with auto MDI/MDI-X crossover detection
  • Up to 200Mbps full duplex bandwidth at each port
  • Compact size fits into any environment -- includes wall-mount slots
  • Address Learning and Aging, and Data Flow Control for enhanced transmission reliability
And we tried unplugging all computers from it except 1 and that didn't make any difference.

Re: No internet no networking

Ok a switch is just that a switch, provided your NiC has its IP info set as the ISP suggests I.E. obtain IP auto or set your IP to a specific one you should be fine. Again if your NiC is disabled that could also be a problem.
