| No internet no networking Hello, oh i hope someone can help me out! I have a brand new Inspiron 1521 with Vista. It will not connect to the internet and will not log onto my home network. My internet is a cable connection, i don't use a modem or a router, i just plug it into my computer and its on. I've tried unchecking IPV4 or unchecking IPV6 . I can ping and get a 169.255 number but cannot ping a web address like Google Any suggestions? Anything, i'll try anything. ![]() Thank you! Natalie |

Im sure even Cable internet requires a type of Device to manage the connection? I have an idea about the cause, Im just trying to get a better idea how your cable is setup so I can be sure I get the right answer for you... |

Regardless of what kind of internet connection you have bottom line here, your Network card is not getting an IP address. Without that you will not be able to ping/browse or tracert. Lets start with the basics, 1) What is the company you get internet from? 2) How does this internet connection connect to your PC? 3) What if any instructions did your ISP give you for setting up and connecting? 4) Has this PC been on the internet before and working? After you answer these I might be able to give you some indepth answers to your problem, but as I stated you are not getting an IP address on a basic level, could be a few things such as the NiC not being enabled or needing a driver update. But it could be something else as well, so reply with the above info and lets go from there. | |||||||||||||||

| Re: No internet no networking Hello, thank you for your replys. I did call my ISP (my isp is a small company) and the guy that owns the ISP is going to work on it. Its so weird cuz all of our other computers, we have 4 others, can get right on the internet, no problem. I have another computer that is doing the same thing, wont get the dhcp # and the internet worked 1 day. We also don't have a router, the cable goes from the satellite dish to a switch box to our computers, thats it. Thanks again, Natalie |
