Wireless Trouble

I went home for the Christmas break and I am trying to get my laptop to connect to the network back at my house. I set up a wireless network through the main computer and have found nothing but problems. The main computer is running XP and I am running Vista. Now, the problem is my computer will detect there is a wireless network available but it will not connect. It let me enter in a password to connect but it tells me there isn't enough strength to connect. This makes no sense due to the fact that it will display 90% network strength. Any suggestions you have would be great. Thank you for your time and help.

Mike

Re: Wireless Trouble

Wireless networks are a butt pain I know, lol. Windows software is a bit flaky the best of times for wireless. I would suggest a nice piece of software called Network Magic. Download the trial version and try connecting through that and let us know what happened.

Re: Wireless Trouble

I downloaded the program and I am still running into problems. I enter in the password and it will start to connect but it will just sit there until it times out then it won't connect. Thanks for the help but, I still need a little more.

OK..try these tutorials/helps. See if any of them resolves the situation.

Auto Tuning - TCP/IP receive level

I dont really run a wireless network, so I dont have first hand knowledge of this, but have a go at them and get back. Maybe someone who has had wireless problems...god, there must be loads, will step in....

Re: Wireless Trouble

From all I ever heard about vista laptops not connecting to the wireless routers is to update the firmware on the router to resolve the issue. I know this has worked for some. Might want to try it.

Re: Wireless Trouble

Is your laptop a ThinkPad or from a known brand?

It's possible there are third party protection utilities running that you are unaware of.

With the ThinkPad for example: ThinkVantage disconnects File a Print sharing at every reboot

Re: Wireless Trouble

Hi mate. Nice to know. Could you tell us how you fixed the problem so that others may know if they have the same trouble. Thanks.

Re: Wireless Trouble

I had to reset the settings on my router. Once I took the password off and made it an unsecured network it worked fine. I live in the middle of the country so we aren't concerned about people being able to get onto the network. Hope it helps.
