| Vista 64 | Re: Internet Speeds I do not think that you will find the tutorial a great deal of help in Vista. The tweaks would have worked in XP or earlier, but Vista has an improved interface and is already optimised for the best connection for upload/downloads. This is the default "normal" setting. If you doubt my word, find a decent download on the web and bookmark it. Try and download it with each of the various settings. You will find that the "normal" setting will produce the best speed by a good margin. Here is a good page on the subject: SpeedGuide.net :: Windows Vista Tweaks but there are many such, similar to the tutorial, if you browse. |

| Windows Vista™ Ultimate | Re: Internet Speeds Hi Davec, My default settings are different to most other machines because Vista trys to autodetect the settings and makes a decision based on a formula only Microsoft knows about, So if I change lan adapters or network topology it doesnt always get the settings right giving me way worse performance and way too much overhead. Vista and every operating system out today will always need tweaks for components like LAN/WAN because of the multitude of problems, network topology and conditions used throughout the World (would they be there if Vista didn't need them?) It works for some and not others and untill Microsoft release that formula we will never know. Steven I do not think that you will find the tutorial a great deal of help in Vista. | Vista 64 | Re: Internet Speeds Your are probably correct. But I was only referring to the tutorial which deals with TCP settings. I cannot put it to the test but I am sure that, whatever else you have configured outside that area, the "normal" TCP setting will still give the best result after configuration. |
