Cant browse internet (have to reset winsock every time)

Hi all,

I have vista business x64 and I have a problem with internet access:

I use a wireless router, but my computer, which has the problem, is connected to the router through cable

Since last week, every time I boot my computer I cant browse the internet (too slow) but I can ping

I cant even access the router page at 192.168.0.1 (local network).

And my notebook (with windows xp) can browse internet normally through the wireless connection.

I've already searched at internet, and I found the option to reset the winsock using: "netsh winsock reset". When I restart the computer after reseting the winsock, everything works great

The problem is the next day I have to reset the winsock again... and this is really boring.

Someone can try to help me? I would appreciate any help

thanks in advance

Humm, 2 things i think of.
Try with your firewall disabled
Try to reset (not winsock) TCP/IP: netsh int ip reset (elevated command prompt)
Reboot.

thanks for the help

I've already reset the TCP/IP I just forgot to tell

I can try the firewall, but if it was working for 2 or 3 months... I think something is corrupting this winsock.... maybe repairing windows can solve?

regards and thanks agains for the help

Vista creates the restoration points itself unless you disabled that function and yes the restore option on the CD is similar, it uses two methods one using System Restore points from the hdd and the other the CD itself to restore.

ok... first of all, thanks all for helping

but I couldnt solve the problem yet

what I have done:

1. checked the system with spybot (i am not sure what is "LSP chain"). everything seemed ok (only some cookies found.. which i deleted)

2. checked file system with "sfc /scannow" -> some errors were found

3. I did a repair install. I installed all windows updates. checked the sfc again, and the errors were still there

4. I did another repair install, but now I am installing the windows updates one by one... and after each update I check the sfc, untill now everything is ok... but the network problem appeared!

after the repair install, I only notted the problem after a recent update... but it doesnt seem to have relationship: the details of the update says something about preventing invasions through Windows Mail (which i dont use)
i did a definition update for Windows Defender... but again.. I dont believe these updates are the problem

my friend told me to look for updated drivers for the network adapter, but I dont think the problem is with it, because I have an onboard network adapter and a PCI-one.. and the problem happens with both adapters...

so I dont know what to do.... my last try will be changing for vista x32

someone can give me an idea?

thanks again

My Computer

Hi

I am having this exact problem.

I switch on and my m/c loads as normal. I get my normal IP address and can access my Hub Manager (Web Page).
Accessing HTTP sites appears not to work... If I reset my connection (once sometimes twice) I may encourage the thing to work but for a limited period (sometimes minutes sometimes hours), but it will fail!
In the meantime:
  • my PC happily works via the hub using P2P protocols
  • Win XP PRO SP2 laptop and my kid's PCs can access HTTP sites via the Hub
  • and I can stream audio / video content from my PC to an XBOX360 via the Hub
i.e. it's not the Hub

The machine has worked fine for 12 months and the problem has only appeared in the last week or so. None of the Windows Updates appears to relate to these areas (i.e. they report to have been for Windows Defender only)

Is there a reported problem with a recent Vista update? Am I going to have to step back, one update at a time until this resolves itself (If so how do I prevent an offending update from re-applying itself?)

Thanks for looking... hope you can help!
