| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: Problem connecting to internet BTW - when you get a message to run something as administrator, that does not mean disable UAC - that means run CMD as Administrator to accomplish what you need to. Now, turn UAC back on. And enjoy the Internet. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: Problem connecting to internet Again, you're mistaken. Just because you are logged in as an administrator doesn't mean you have full administrative privileges. Consider it like this - although a member of the administrators group, Vista users act more like *nix - so that you are more like a wheel group user than anything, as opposed to actually *being* root - and in order to accomplish tasks you need to do things in Vista's version of sudo. Now, the easiest way to do this is to click the Start Orb, then in the search area type CMD - when you see the CMD Prompt icon populate in the search list, right click it and select "Run as Administrator" (sudo). Then, you can perform the steps without the errors. I have attached 2 screen shots to show that this works just fine: ![]() In this mode you'll get an error on three (at least) things that you need to try. Notice the highlighted title: No Administrator. ![]() In this mode it works just fine - as I have demonstrated. Again, notice the title - this time you're running CMD with administrative privileges - aka running sudo {command}. BTW, since you're into *nix, there is a sudo for win called SudoWin, but there is an even better thing for Vista users - Start++ - it is an enhancement to the Vista start menu that give the ability to run anything that you can from the Search bar in the start menu prefixed with a 'sudo' command - so, for *me* to run CMD elevated, instead of doing as I wrote above, I simply click the Start Orb, then type Code: sudo cmd We ahve Start++ linked here in our really kewl freeware apps collection thread: Free Software List for Vista |

| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Re: Problem connecting to internet OK, your explanation and referring to the comparable Linux commands makes it for me clear now. Besides, if you run in problems with Vista, visit this forum ;-) One detail: the command "netsh int ip reset" I noticed that netsh int not found, like I mentioned yesterday here. No problem now, because i solved my problem :-) Wouter |
