Hi all. Rolfhw here. My hub PC is an HP quad core pc. In my living rm sits the HP IQ506 all-in-one touchsmart. Last is another HP, laptop. I have a Linkseys ultra wireless router. I had problems w/ the software, so now the two computers are back to a wired con. I have tried and tried to connect the computers so I can access my hub pc from the other two,.... I am now ready to pull out my hair! If anyone has an idea, I would be very greatfull. I went through all my settings, nothing seems odd. I`m at wits end.

Hi, rolfhw, and welcome to the forums.

First off, we'll need more info - particularly the OS on all three computers, the workgroup each is set up for, and *which* Linksys wireless router you have.

And what do you mean by 'access my hub PC from the other two' ? Do you mean just browsing files or do you mean using Remote Desktop (as the title suggests :)).

Yes it`s the remote desktop. On my one care circle I have the other two, (laptop + IQ506). If I could access my entertainment files I would be happy. I have a feeling I will have to uninstall the linksys and start all over. I would like to avoid that but I might not have a choice.

A few detail changes; In my quad core, I upgraded my graphics card to an evga 8800gt, @ 512mb, and 700w pwr. sup. It runs dual monitors; a 22" wide screen, and a 32" hd tv/mon. OS is vista ultimate. The IQ506 touchsmart as is; as well as an hp laptop, both use vista premium. To tie all the wireless devices, is a linksys ultra.

Wait a second - what version of Vista/XP are you using?

In Vista, you can only connect the TO Ultimate and Business versions, but you can connect from any version.

As for XP, only the Profressional Edition allows you to connect TO it, but, again, you can connect from any version.

I know its an obvious question, but have you actually changed the setting on your host pc to allow for remote desktop connections? It is disabled by default.

And before you ask...
  1. Click Start, type System, then click on 'System'.
  2. On the left, there will be a link for 'Remote Settings'.
  3. Remote Desktop: Allow... as you wish.

I`ve done all that. I`m at the point where I can access public documents on my hub pc from anywhere. One good thing is by discusing the problem, gets me thinking. Maybe I`ll roll back the PCs via syst. restore, uninstall the linksys and start over, in order. I dunno, I`m outa answers?
