Windows live

my name is Robert new to the forum here but very use to forum life. here is the problem.

have vista HP on a laptop by Fujitsu or however you spell it. I am IT student so I know a lot about computers and this one is baffling. I have a neighbor who has a wireless router I was connecting to but I had a problem with the signal. I got a Linksys router and upgraded to DD-WRT and put it in bridge mode. it connects to there router and I connect to mine. all works fine until this weekend. downloaded windows live messenger and started talking to my brother. periodically I get disconnected at first just from live and then from the internet. I try to reconnect to live and I get all kind of errors (like 3-6 different ones). I troubleshoot through windows live and get all kind of problems it claims I have ( key port conflict, DNS error, Proxy server disconnect.) so I switched my DNS in the TCP/IP configuration to the address for OpenDNS.com and turned off the firewall (because it also said that was a problem access restrictions and all) open up the IE options menu and went to setup the connection to auto detect network proxy. and used port forwarding in the router to open port 6111 for live (this part was a total bust so I deleted the forward) everything worked fine after that for about 20 minutes. then BOOM logged off again and off the internet too. rebooted my computer and connected again and about 15 minutes later again with the logoff. I am at my wits end. it is not like I am some schmoob and no nothing about computers but I went in and fixed all the errors and nothing seems to work. there was a CMD line on another site that was supposed to solve the random disconnect problem and i tried that too reverted all the settings to normal did not solve the problem and moved them back and same thing. hoping someone here can help this being the Vista forum and all.
thanks a lot

Re: Windows live

I use a D-Link DGL-4300 Gamerlounge with D-Link firmware, on a Cable Modem, and have been using Vista for 2+ years, and have never gotten bumped by WLM unless there was a server issue.

I'd check your software installed on your computer and run a thorough malware check on your computer.

Re: Windows live

actually I discoverd the problem after submiting this post. essentially I have a bridge at my house that my laptop connects to. that bridge was setus to use 450 ports and timeout connections at 500s changed the setting to 15000 sec and 4000 ports and all is well now. there may be a little problem with the gateway but I think it is a range issue with the bridge and the host router
