Vista-IE7: "Open" File + "Verify"

Hopefully I'm posting in the correct forum section and that this isn't a topic that has been discussed frequently as I've done extensive searches and browsing before deciding to post.

So here's the problem/annoyance I'm encountering and I'm wondering if there's some sort of solution out there:

I have Vista Home Basic and IE7. I can download files quite fine, but the problem is that when I try to open the file either from the dialogue window that shows up after the download OR when the file opens automatically after a download, a new dialogue window shows up that says "Verify" (apparently while the system verifies the file for who knows what).

Now, that window showing doesn't really bother me that much, even though it does bother me, the real problem arises when you download multiple files at the same time and open those files because once the system tries to verify all those files at the same time it ends up crashing the browser.

So what I'm mainly looking for is a setting that would disable this file verification by Vista/IE7.

I have a fairly good computer, with 2GB of RAM, 2.20 Dual Core processor so I really really doubt this is a performance issue.

Thanks.

Can provide screenshots if needed.
