Wireless Problem.

I am on Vista Home Premium 32bit

Recently my Wireless has slowed down.

I have used speedtest.net to check my speed and i was getting at around 3mb

I tried with my XP Laptop and i got at around 11mb

They are both in the same location.

Can anyone help me find out why i get such low speeds on my PC than i do on my Laptop.

Thanks

Re: Wireless Problem.

It's possible that you've got some malware on your desktop PC that's hindering your internet connection's speed. I reccomend running a thorough scan of all your drives and see if you can get it cleaned up a bit then go from there.

I had the same prolem with my desktop as well, only it was something different. In MY case, I had a Belkin wireless G card in my desktop. I was getting low connection speeds with it, while the laptop was connected at 90+ percent. Well, I upgraded my wireless G card to a Rosewill "turbo" card and I'm now getting GREAT speed.

Re: Wireless Problem.

The good free ones that I reccomend are Avast (viruses), Spyware Blaster and Spybot for Spyware, Ad-Aware for adware, and if you have some type of malware that's really slowing you down but cant get rid of it, the best tool is Trend Micro's "Hijack This"

There are also lots of optimizers for your connection and for general PC use as well. Go to download.com to search.

Re: Wireless Problem.

My recent encounters with optimizers have mainly resulted in my connection not working cause it changed a random thing.

I tried the malware advice, but still very slow.

Re: Wireless Problem.

Grazor,

I've always found the best way to repair any networking issues is to run the TCP Optimizer. There is no installing, just run the exe provided, Make sure the correct network adapter is selected (Your wireless, not the ethernet), select "Optimized Settings" (near the bottom right) and apply and restart.

Not only does this fix most problems with connection, but speeds up your connection to its optimum settings.

Good luck!

Re: Wireless Problem.

Hard wire it before anything else. If you get a good speed it could be your wireless adapter. But before throwing it out, update your driver.

Re: Wireless Problem.

Its a WPN111 Adapter, i have already installed the updates, but ill check again and report back.

*EDIT*

Yes, its all up to date with the Version 2.0 Drivers.

I think i might just have to get a new adapter.

Anyone know a good cheap one?
