| Vista Home Premium x64 | Vista + XP = network? Hey forumites, I'm trying to get my network to function with my Vista x64 laptop. The network has 4 computers total: 3 XP machines, and the Vista Laptop. The three XP machines don't have any issues sharing files. However, I cannot view any XP computers at all on the Vista machine, and I cannot see any of the Vista Shared Folders from my Xp desktop. (I can see the Vista machine on the XP one, but expanding it shows no folders shared. Rt-click -> explore results in an error : "\\Studio72 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found.") I am only able to run ipconfig, net config and browstat info on my XP desktop and my Vista Laptop, as the other two machines are my roommate's desktop, and our little security computer (it just records a webcam set on our front door when we're not home in case someone breaks in). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The attached zip file contains 2 folders, one for the XP machine, and one for the Vista Laptop. In each folder is the ipconfig /all, net config, and browstat readouts. **NOTE** the Vista browstat file is cut short because the program stopped working for some reason all three times I tried it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With that info, let me tell you everything else I've checked: All users on the Vista laptop are 'active' by running Code: net user XXXX /active:yes Network setting sets as follows : Network type : private Both machines are on the same Workgroup Sharing and Discovery Network discovery - ON File Sharing - ON Public folder sharing - ON Printer Sharing - ON Password Protected Sharing - OFF Media Sharing - ON Both machines can ping each other successfully as well. So, what can I do to get these folders to be shared across the two computers? All I want to do is be able to copy files from one or the other without wasting cds or having to wait on slow flash drives. Hope that's enough to help you help me! Thanks for any help, -Plarz |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: Vista + XP = network? Sorry for the double post, but I have some more information. I've updated my desktop to SP3, and the problem is unchanged. I can still see the Vista Laptop from the XP machine, but I still cannot view any of the folders within. From the Vista laptop, everything is still the same. Any other ideas? -Plarz |

| windows vista ultimate | Re: Vista + XP = network? Hi, Am sorry but on your first post. You have disabled password protection sharing why is that. Enable password protection sharing. and then try. if only public folder sharing is enabled then only files that you put to the public folder will be visible. Hope this helps !! Cheers |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: Vista + XP = network? Well, The laptop has users and logins, but the XP desktop does not. I have files in the public folders, and that's really the only thing worth sharing on the network. I really don't care where the files have to be in order to share them, I just want to be able to share them! I have tried with PPS on and off, and the situation doesn't change. -Plarz |
