| Vista Ultimate SP2/Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Question has been moved. The first thing to make sure of, with any operating system, is that you are totally up to date with all updates, both critical and non critical. So in Start/Control Panel/System and Maintenance/Windows Update/Change Settings make sure that you have it set to update all components using Microsoft Updates. Many web pages rely on Java to function properly, but an out of date Java engine can present a security risk. Check your Start/Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program to see if Java is listed and what version it is. If it is a lower version that that mentioned here: Download Free Java Software - Sun Microsystems uninstall it, then download and install the latest from that link. Alter the language if need be. Webpages also often rely on Flash for their moving content etc. so again go through the same procedure for that. It should be listed as Adobe Flash and/or Shockwave. Check that yours is the latest here: Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave and Flash Players You need these to be able to view most web pages so it's important you are up to date with them. |

| Vista Ultimate SP2/Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Please help me with a web site Genes Reunited has an FAQ page and one of them refers to getting blank pages as follows: Quote: When you try to view one of our records or census pages you must make sure of the following: 1). You have Adobe Acrobat installed which you will need to view the information. You can get the correct version here: http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/acrobat/readstep2.html 2). Please can you check your security settings on your PC? If you go to Tools/Internet Options/security and then select 'default', the setting must be at medium. If it is at high you will only see a white page. 3). Please make sure that you have enough credits. The census page takes 5 credits and the BMD page uses 1 credit per view. Military records use up 3 credits. Please also be aware that if the site is busy, or your PC runs quite slowly, then the information may take a while to load. You will see a white page as the data is accessed. Depending on the speed of your PC, you must allow a few moments for the page to load. They also state: Quote: Please either select a FAQ from the menu below or enter a search term and click 'search'. If you cannot find an answer to your question you will be able to contact our dedicated support team who will be able to answer all your questions The Support Team's working hours are Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and we will answer all emails within 2 - 3 days. | Vista Home Premium | Re: Please help me with a web site Hi Peter. Thanks so much for all your advice,it's taken me nearly all day as we have had terrifc thunder & lightening here,& i must say they are great if you like that sort of thing. Anyway,i have done as you have mentioned & at present i still can't see my tree,i did email Genes Reunited about this problem & i am yet to have an answer, the only email i got was to say they took my membership payment. ![]() I just don't know what else to do,other than smash the laptop up[yes,i nearly did!] ![]() ![]() ![]() A friend of mine did advise me to use a Registery Booster[think that is what it's called],i did check on the sites, one site said i have 700 odd poblems & another said 256 problems, would i have this many problems that need fixing in just a very short time? If i do can they be fixed easily & are they trustworthy? Another friend i spoke to & described the fault i was having, she told me she had a problem like i have[she also has Vista] & it was on the Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints site & when she tried to use a certain part it wouldn't load correctly, she did get advice on how to fix it & it worked, problem is she can't remember how it was fixed............Perhaps i have the same problem as she had? Kaz,who is so fed up with it all. |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: Please help me with a web site Hello Kaz this passage from the Genes re-united website may i believe show your issue Quote: If you click on My Family Tree your tree will open in a new window. You must make sure you allow pop-ups. You also need the latest version of Macromedia flash. If you don't have it you can download it from here. Please whatever you do avoid these online registry boosters / checkers, my experience is that they are a way to make money for the authors and do not help the user at all |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: Please help me with a web site First as I do not know the actual software they are using I can only give general advice but from the error you are getting I assume you enter the data into the system then view the tree. If this is true then it seems that there is an error at the point in the website code noted in the message Quote: Line 46 Char 13 Error 'Tree' is underlined. Code 0 Url http//www.genesreunited.co.uk .The thing that does worry me a little is that you say the tree can be accessed from other machines, which would suggest the fault is with your machines set-up and not the actual site. Pop-ups. If you go into Internet explorer and go to Tools then Pop-Up Blocker you should be able to switch off the function. Try to view the tree again If this allows you to see the page you can then go back into the tools menu and add the web page address you are on to the list of allowed sites and then switch the blocking back on. (otherwise you may see a lot of ads) |
