| Windows Vista | local only connection last week virgin media installed TV, Phone and BB. since then, my sons desktop windows vista will not connect to the internet and has local only connection via a Belkin adapter. The adapter has found the router but will not connect. Previous supplier, tiscali. A friend has tried to change the IP address, and still nothing. We have tried to uninstall Norton security, but the machine seems to want to hold onto it, and will not fully uninstall. I have another desktop, which is plugged into the router and that works fine. My laptop which is also Windows Vista, has connected perfectly well. I am seriously pulling my hair out as what to do next. Can someone please help...bearing in mind i can navigate a computer but not very technical. Many thanks Tracy |

| Vista home premium 64 bit | Re: local only connection So your sons computer uses a wifi signal. Have you tried a wired connection directly from your sons computer to the router? As a diagnostic test, try it and see if the internet connects. |

| Vista x64 + Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) | Re: local only connection Have you upgraded the drivers for the Belkin Adapter? if yes or no, tell us the model of your adapter and the driver version you have now. What is the brand and model of your router? give us the firmware version if possible (not very important!) Are you using Windows Zero Configuration or the Belkin software to connect to the router? Are you sure you got the profile and SSID of the router correctly inputed? Does this computer have the same Workgroup name within the network as the others? |
