Vista Network periodically freezes

Hi all,
I have 3 PCs connected in a network by a Linksys Wireless G router:
  • 1 Desktop, connected by Ethernet cable
  • 2 Laptops, connected by wireless
They all use the Public folders on the desktop as a way to store common files. The problem I have is that the network allows access to the Desktop public folder,s but seems to freeze for about 30 seconds, unpredictably every 2-10 minutes, then start working normally again for a variable period.

During the freeze on access to the desktop, all PCs continue to be able to access the Internet without any problems. On the Vista Network page all 3 PCs are displayed

All 3 PCs are running Norton 360 Anti virus and Firewall, with the other PCs set up for Full Trust. If I turn off Norton 360, the problem does not seem to disappear.

I would be grateful for any help anybody can provide. Thanks - JR
