Wireless issues with vista but not XP

Hi all - newbie here.

I am a recent convert to Vista - new HP HDX16 laptop turned up on friday but all weekend I have had problems trying to hook up with the wi-fi signal that has been working fine with my 4 year old XP driven Vaio....

The error messages I have been receiving are mentioning IP conflict and limited connectivity. In addition to the old laptop my blackberry and netbook all continue to work perfectly using the signal.

I can hook up tp my neighbours wifi (unsecured - I have told him to sort it but he doesn't care "you can use it if you like Dave") without any problems.

I have tried disabling the windows firewall, changing the WEP code, rebooting and resetting the desktop/old laptop/router (netgear DG834G) but nothing doing.

Any suggestions?

lol, it sounds like your router has given two pcs your laptop and for eg your xp the same IP set all your desktops with a dynamic isp and download SP2 for vista.
short og that go to network and sharing center>manage wireless conection(i think
) and delete your network reset your router to fac tory defaults, go through the installation procces and connect ALL of your devices one at a time leaving 30 seconds betwoeen conntecting.
eg, connect your desktop wait 30 seconds connect your laptop wait 30 seconds and connect your blackberry ect..

thanks lewismc. took me a while but I have deleted the original connection and started again using a WPA instead of a WEP and we appear to be up and running!

now, getting used to vista after 5 years of XP.......;)

good to see it worked out, yeah some people have been going to wpa/wpa2 now (i rekon cause of the youtube vids of people hacking wep keys) but really wpa and wep you dont need em (i use wep cause i think its awsome) if you cant be bothered with thaty heres a tip use mac address filtering and disble your wep/wpa cause you dont enter a psk key the router goes "yep, your on the list you can go on the net, or nah sorry mate your not oon the list" also means that if you tell the whole world you psk key they still can acess your network
