| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Wireless router help Hello All, I'm new here and my name is gungu. I was just browsing around on Google, ckicked on a message and here I am.. I am seeking help on how to get my Presario 700 Laptop connected to Wireless via my Netgear router. I recently had help from a NETGEAR agent that got me on. I thought I could remember how to get back on, but obviously I am forgetting something. Can I get some help? New member, gungu |

| Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit / Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit | Re: Wireless router help I know this is probably a silly question but are you sure that it's still switched on for wireless on your laptop ? Do you have any lights showing and what happens when you try to connect, do you get any error messages ? What do you see when you click on the Start Orb then click on Network ? Nearly forgot welcome to the forum I hope you enjoy your time here. Last edited by Joan Archer; 08-04-2009 at 04:09 PM.. Reason: Added Info |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Wireless router help Joan, your questions are not silly at all. It's just that I'm confused and a bit despondent. After all I still use my desktop although I'd like my laptop to work. It's no point keep calling netgrear. Maybe, there is a problem with the laptop because Windows keep telling me that I need an adapter, other message is about internet cable not plugged which makes no sense since I'm trying to get Wireless connecttion so I JUST GAVE UP... It used to work fine after it was bought... |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Wireless router help I believe I would like to take a stab at this one. First of all I feel we must start from scratch. You will need to plug your laptop into the router via an ethernet wire. Then you will need to reset your router, that is push and hold the little red button for about 15 secs, then release and let it recycle until all the lights are on. Next you need to open your browser and type 192.168.1.1 a log on window should appear in which you will type "admin" and "admin" in the user name and password. This should bring you to the setup screen for your router. You must access a router via ethernet cable to set it up initially. Do these steps and then let me know what happens |

| Vista Ultimate 64-bit, SP2 | Re: Wireless router help Hello gungu, Welcome to the Vista Forums, See how you go with shor's recommendation. You might also get a few clues from this link to help you - How to Troubleshoot a Netgear Wireless Router | eHow.com Re the default password 'admin' as mentioned by shor. Remember this is a generic password that everybody is aware of. Make sure you change that asap to something far more secure. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Wireless router help Gungu, After you have accessed your router, you need to set up the network in the router. Name it the same as you have on your PC and give it the same password as you did on your PC. I suggest you use WPA and not WEP. Just because you can see a network or device in control panel under networks does not mean you can access it. I suggest you start from scratch, and name your network with password etc on your desktop and duplicate it on your router. Then once you have them talking it is very simple to access with your laptop (provided you have a wireless router). The laptop will simple ask for the password in order to access. I had a very difficult time setting up a new network recently with this DELL Studio Laptop. Turns out I had all sorts of hardware problems as well as an actual weak signal on my cable. I fought it for months and discovered the core problem was drivers for 2 network adapters were conflicting. I reinstalled and updated and now the system rocks. ![]() |
