| VISTA HOME PREMIUM SP2 | Re: lost wireless conection I also have had this issue many times with Vista X64, I have never got to the bottom of it after many attempts to alter all the settings IPV6 blah blah...I have also done all the low level settings but nothing ever seems to be 100%. Good luck, I have comcluded I will upgrade to Win 7. After suffering for months, I just gave up, and am awaiting my pre order of 2 WINDOWS 7 DVDs. I am hoping the problem will then just go away. For now, I set aside my top of the line Alienware laptop, and went back to my old DELL XP laptop. XP DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. IT NEVER DISCONNECTS. I am convinced of the following: 1. This is not a router issue. (Firmware or hardware) 2. This is not a computer hardware issue. 3. This is not a wireless adapter issue. (Hardware or driver related) 4. THIS IS A VISTA ISSUE. Lloyd |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit | Re: lost wireless conection Lloyd says this is a Vista issue, but I'm not sure. I had the exact same problem in XP. All other computers in household (sometimes up to 5), both wireless and LAN (4 PC, one Mac), have no problem. My XP desktop disconnected more and more often until the problem was constant. I first bought a new Belkin wireless adapter, and eventually a NEW computer, which is about one week old. New computer (Vista Home Premium, 32 bit), new router. Worked great for a week, and now this morning I'm off and NOTHING is helping, not even the old "renew IP address" trick which worked in XP. I need help. Pamela |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM SP2 | Re: lost wireless conection All I can add to this is the fact that: 1. My desktop & new laptop were both bought with VISTA HOME PREMIUM pre-installed. 2. My desktop is hard wired to the router. (Never a drop out in 3 years) I do like VISTA. 3. My Belkin n router was recommended by DELL after the purchase of my desktop. 4. My laptop is only used wirelessly on my home network. It worked fine for the first few months, then the drop outs started. (All hardware is ok) 5. I did everything from every forum to solve it. 6. I am now typing on my old DELL XP laptop. (Same wireless connection) NEVER A DROP OUT. I will use this one as my portable, until 7 comes out, and then hop for the best. I am convinced that nobody can solve this. Lloyd |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit | Re: lost wireless conection check your mac address in your web based router page. For what ever reason...I'm guessing some updates are at the root of the problem.....gets greyed out. Check the box to allow the mac address and then clone it and save then reboot. |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit | Re: lost wireless conection See comments in text: All I can add to this is the fact that: 1. My desktop & new laptop were both bought with VISTA HOME PREMIUM pre-installed. me too 2. My desktop is hard wired to the router. (Never a drop out in 3 years) I do like VISTA. 3. My Belkin n router was recommended by DELL after the purchase of my desktop. my Belkin router was recommended by geeky fellow from Best Buy, mine is the wireless network adapter and is used on Desktop with Vista pre-installed. 4. My laptop is only used wirelessly on my home network. It worked fine for the first few months, then the drop outs started. (All hardware is ok) my desktop worked wirelessly for years using old network adapter provided by cable company. When connection started dropping (on old computer which used XP) everyone blamed network adapter. I first bought new adapter, which solved the problem, but a week later purchased new computer with Vista pre-installed. Again, it worked great, until this morning. Nothing has changed since last night. However, after the problem appeared, I installed some Vista updates which had been pending. 5. I did everything from every forum to solve it. I'm getting close to that. 6. I am now typing on my old DELL XP laptop. (Same wireless connection) NEVER A DROP OUT. I'm typing on my Toshiba Vista laptop on same wireless connection. I will use this one as my portable, until 7 comes out, and then hop for the best. |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit | Re: lost wireless conection Again, we have multiple computers online, and my Vista laptop connects wirelessly just fine. New desktop with Vista HP just stopped connecting this morning. Belkin adapter is about a month old and worked gangbusters until this morning. Any thoughts? |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit | Re: lost wireless conection Yes, sometimes MS in it's infinite wisdom sends out updates that inadvertently screw things up. Thats why I suggested checking your mac address. Is the Belkin adapter wireless for the desktop? Try uninstalling adapter and reinstall it. Sometimes the registry gets corrupted. It wouldn't hurt to check for any malware, adware spyware and viruses. Sometimes bugs get in and mess things up including the registry. A good registry cleaner wouldn't hurt. Also as general maintenance defrag hard drive. |
