Re: IP help

By this I'm assuming you want to change your LAN connections IP Address.
To do so enter network and sharing center and from the left hand side click "Manage network connections"
A new window will pop up, right click on "Local Area Connection" and select properties.
Another window will open, from the list find "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" then click Properties button.
You can now set a manual IP Address.

It might be useful to provide some info on why you need to do this, is it to solve a problem you currently have?
It's usually better to stick to getting your network address from a DHCP Server.

By normal means there isn't a way to change the IP address your ISP gives you. You can however, use whats called a proxy server (or anonymous proxy) to tunnel to the remote IP and use it. If you were to tell us waht you are trying to do we could help

Re: IP help

Most ISP's providing a home connection distribute their IP's by DHCP, so turning off your router for a few mins and back on may cause it to grab a new IP from your ISP's pool of addresses.

True, In theroy. If dynamic Host Config Proto. is used and he turns off his router his current IP becomes free and the dhcp server may very well assign the newly released IP right back to the OP. My isp (time warner) uses dhcp extensively and every time I flush my dns, reboot my router or renew a lease I get the exact same IP. I think the device that serves my area has its own pool of IP's so the only way you can be sure to get a different IP (like for surfing bad web sites) is by either using openDNS, or proxies to get an IP thats assigned from a different pool.

If hacker has changed uid and pword, IP change will not help you unless your current IP is being barred. If you are a mod, who is admin? cant the admin go into your account and reset the uid and password?
