Local Access Only

Hi,

I dont have any experience writing these so im not too sure how they go so sorry in advance for my mistakes!

I have 2 laptops both running vista home premium and both have been working perfectly until recently. I use 3 mobile broadband and this worked fine until i upgraded the hardware to a faster version. When i did this i could not connect to the internet on my 2nd laptop. I was getting the message "local access only". My other laptop still worked fine on the new dongle so I could live without my 2nd laptop on my home internet as i primarily use this one for college anyway. However, i then decided to get a mobile broadband router. When i connect this up i can detect the network on both laptops and connect to it but i am now getting the message "local access only" on both computers.

I have spent literally hours of my life on the phone running through every kind of test with my isp and still have gotten nowhere. They cannot identify the problem and are telling me that there actually isn't one and can't understand why its not working!

If anybody could shed any light on the situation it would be greatly appreciated because i'm literally at my wits end!

Thanks for the reply Ken,
My first Laptop (toshiba satellite) has Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps. My second laptop (acer aspire 5735) has 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N WLAN. The router is a Huawei D100 Router. I am not sure of the specs of this as it is designed specifically for a wireless modem. Here is a link to the router and broadband site as you will probably understand better from the site than from me as i dont really know how to explain it! thanks! http://www.three.co.uk/Mobile_Broadband/Huawei_D100_Router

What I can see from the portition that you upload will come as no surpirse but all the various protocols are listed as disconnected.

Did you install a driver for the wifi?

Ken

Edit: sorry I took another look and found the active one

Does the wifi modem (hotspot) give you directions for connecting over point to point proticol? PPP is what the modem uses and Im not sure how to connect it. Does your ISP do PPP?

You have the wireless modem, and wifi pc cards, who is the isp and how did you connect with the other modem/router, and whats changed?

sorry for the multiple screenshots but im not sure exactly what it is you need.

i think maybe the reason they are all showing as disconnected is because im connected to the internet now directly through the usb on my first computer and not through the wireless.

My isp is 3 mobile in ireland. My last modem was simply put straight into the computer and i did not use a router. with the new modem it works when i plug directly into computer 1 but not into computer 2 and works with neither when i use the router.

I do not know if this is the information you are looking for but i have uploaded 4 screenshots of cmd prompt of "all"

oh and sorry im really not sure about ppp i do not know what this is

Well, both the router and the wireless network cards support 802.11b/g. That's good. How about security? Have you implemented this on the router (e.g. WPA2)? If so, do you have a key for both notebooks?

Is your notebook (that cannot connect) able to see the router?

Well we finally made some progress. SO you have 2 computers and PC1 plugs into PC2 to get to the internet. What does pc2 use to connect to the internet? PC1 is the one that doesn't work right?

have you looked at the router connect page 3 - Mobile Broadband - Got a question?

since you can see from one to the other its a config problem with the router ( or a router problem). Has the router ever worked?

So according to the above page you have the wireless router and a USB modem. Is that correct?
