Limited or no connectivity revisited

I know there are several threads like this on the vista forums, but the postmaster recommended a new thread so i am kindly obliging.

I have the same ****ty problem many before me have had. One peeerty day I turned on my Vista comp, and all of a sudden my wireless connection had stopped working. Limited or no connectivity was the message I got.
So I fired up my notebook, running with XP - same thing. Limited or no connectivity. Only when I did diagnose problem on my XP it did precisely that. and the problem was gone.

My Vista was helpless.

Unfortunately I tried using one of the solutions I found online, i.e. Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers

...and it did not work. Here is my ipconfig - maybe somebody can help me.

patters

may just be a bad dns entry. can you go start>search>cmd> type ipconfig /flushdns, enter, then ipconfig /renew, enter

Re-run the ipconfig /all and look for your IP number. what is it?

Re: Limited or no connectivity revisited

dnsflush = the requested operation requires elevation.

renew= no operation can be performed on local area connection.
An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed our.

ipconfig/all = same as before.

The DHCP seems to be the problem...

The first "request requires elevation" can be resolved I believe by typing "cmd" in the search bar at the bottom of the search bar and when the result pops up above right click it and select "run as administrator". This is know as an "elavated command prompt".

Re: Limited or no connectivity revisited

OK, so I ran it as administrator.

dnsflush = succesfully flushed the DNS resolver cache.

ipconfig/renew = An error occurred while renewing (same as above...). DHCP thing.

I also did what kavita suggested, restarted comp, and nothing.

Any ideas?

Oh, the ipconfig/all is the same as before.

Clean reinstall. The Windows Socket layer(Winsock) has gone bad.

Re: Limited or no connectivity revisited

Let me get this straight, you are proposing I reinstall Vista to get rid of this problem? That seems rather desperate, ay?

I don't know anything about this stuff, but could you at least explain why such a drastic move is the only solution?
