Messed up with my Wireless configuration..

Hi,

i have a problem with the wireless internet connection.
I have HP wireless printer, which connects to my computer through a wireless modem: Siemens SE567. I installed the printer driver with the CD they gave.
Then, I needed to reconfigure the setting because i changed the modem, so I followed the manual to reconfigure the setting needed. now my laptop and printer is connected again, but then, I couldn't connect to the internet.
I tried a lot of things including changing the DNS and IP of my wireless adapter.

I found that I need to fill in the IP address, gateway IP, and the DNS to connect to the internet. However, I need to put the Gateway IP, for example: 192.168.1.254 into the DNS field in order to connect to the internet through my modem.

That is the nice part.
The worst part is: I couldn't connect to any other wireless hotspot other than my own. T_T

What should I do now?

Also, it won't allow me to connect to the internet if I only fill in the DNS with the gateway IP. I also need to fill in the IP address and the gateway.

my wireless network adapter is:
Intel 3945ABG wireless network adapter

IP protocol version 4 could connect to my modem this way, but IP protocol version 6 always has a limited connection.

AND

When I change the IP protocol version 4 to "obtain IP address automatically" and obtain DNS automatically,
it will show like this in Command prompt if I type in "ipconfig /all"

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connection-specific DNS suffix :
DHCP enabled : yes
Autoconfiguration enabled : yes
Link-local IPv6 address : fe80::656f:52cc:f21c:9299%11<preferred>
Auto configuration IPv4 Address : 169.254.146.153<Preferred>
Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway:
DNS server : fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1
fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1
fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1
NetBIOS over Tcpip : Enabled

The IPv4 address is supposed to be 192.168.1.77(for example)
and the gateway is supposed to be 192.168.1.254
Subnet mask the last time I checked was 255.255.0.0

I didn't put several information there like the physical address.

Please help me..

First off, setting the IP address to the one you want will not deny access to other routers...

Are you using a router to connect? Or are you straight to the modem? If so, you want to set up the computer to match the modem settings. Example:

Modem: IP address- 192.168.0.7
Computer: IP address- 192.168.0.107
DNS Server: 192.168.0.7
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Also, in the connection properties, where you see IPv4 and IPv6, almost nothing uses IPv6 so just disable it.

Then it will connect just fine. Now here is the tricky thing. Lets say you take your laptop or computer to someone elses house to use a access point there, you'll need to change all of those settings back to: 'Find a IP address automatically' then everything will work where ever you are. Hope this helps :)

I still can't connect with the automatic configuration..:(
Yes I'm using a router to connect.
At home, I can manipulate (see my explanation above) my IPv4 so I can use the internet like now, but outside, I can't use any other wireless hotspot using the automatic configuration for IP and DNS or "Find an IP address automatically" or "Find a DNS automatically."
(whenever I use "Find an IP address automatically, it will show like this in the cmd):

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connection-specific DNS suffix :
DHCP enabled : yes
Autoconfiguration enabled : yes
Link-local IPv6 address : fe80::656f:52cc:f21c:9299%11<preferred>

fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1
fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1
NetBIOS over Tcpip : Enabled

it happens with any wireless I connect to with the automatic configuration.

I want to connect to the internet in my University. Before, I can just do it with the automatic configuration, but now I can't. I tried putting ip addresses and DNS to the school's network, but I still can't connect..

Also, I just tried something new.. I tried looking at the DNS address in the modem, and I tried putting it into IPv4, and it works...

now, the problem is just:
Why everytime I use the "Automatic Find the IP or DNS,"anywhere, it will not let me connect to the internet?

You still have IPv6 enabled...

The information above is from a different connection other than your home network? If so when in range to a different network --like the one at the University-- try right clicking the wireless adapter and choose the 'diagnose' option. See what windows says is the problem. I don't see why it would do that...
