Vista - Can't connect to internet

I just bought a new laptop and im having a problem getting internet on it. I already have internet from my old computer which is a wired network (broadband). With my internet provider i received a usb modem with software. I tried installing the usb modem to my new laptop with the software but it didn't work so i uninstalled it tried again and now the disk isn't even working properly. It says for it to work the computer needs to be restarted, so i restart it and it loads back up it says i need to restart it just like the last time
