Wifi connection problem

Hi i just bought an Acer netbook with windows vista home premium. I have tried to connect it to my home router and everytime i do it ask for a pin number. so i finally got the pin number off the router and typed it in and then it went to a network security page or something like that and i connected it then. But my question is how can i connect to routers say like at my classroom when i can't get the pin number off the router? I mean my gf's comp has vista on it and so does my brothers ones home premium and ultimate, and all they do is say connect to, then choose the router and put in the password and they are connected? they are both only about a month newer than mine but how can i get mine to do that and not the pin number deal?
thanks

Its the way your router is set up. You can turn that off in the router web page which you got a glimpse of. using a browser type in the address (varies) and then click enter the usual web page is 192.168.0.1

Hope this helps

Re: Wifi connection problem

if you are saying that you need to put in a pin number every time you connect to a router. when you are choosing the network you want to connect to tick the boxes save this network and automatically connect, this will save you from having to input your password every second

When you are in class, there is a high probability they will NOT require any access codes.

Security on wireless routers, if established, use schemes like WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc. You certainly want to run security with your own router. Otherwise people outside your house, apartment or flat can - at best - access your internet and - at worst - obtain personal information.

Whoa. Maybe I misunderstood that part. Have you been asked for pin numbers on other routers? If so, please give me make and model of your wifi, as well as pc.
