Hi,

I have 2 laptops and a ipod touch which are all wireless conected to my main computer which runs with windows 7.

The problem I have is that one of my laptops today decided not to connect anymore!!

This laptop runs on windows Vista Basic and was working fine this morning but as of this afternoon cannot connect to internet or email.

I have tried to re-connect but I keep on receivibg the error page stating that " windows cannot find any networks "

When I click on the link below this message which is " diagnose why windows cant find any networks" a window named windows network diagnostics appears stating " this computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured "

Does anyone have any solutions to this problem as it was working fine ( wireless ) this morning and now not?

Thankyou

Hi,

  • Press the Windows key and R to open the Run dialogue.
  • Type "devmgmt.msc" and press enter. Go past the UAC prompt if necessary.
  • Make sure there are no errors showing, particularly in the networking section. Errors will be obvious, there is no need to hunt for them. Check Other Devices if this catagory exists.
  • Under the Action menu, click on "Scan for Legacy Hardware changes".
  • See if your network device now appears.
  • Under the Network Adaptors catagory, find the Wireless card and right click on it.
  • Click on Properties.
  • See if any errors are showing here and note down the error code and post here.
  • Under the Driver Tab, click on Update Driver.
  • Click on Search Online and let it finish. Install driver when asked.
  • Note down and post here the model of you wireless network card and your full computer make and model.

Hi niemiro,
I have done as you asked and when I clicked on" network adaptors " the only item showing is:~ SiS191 ethernet controller.

When I clicked on properties the general tab states " this device is working properly"

Then on the driver tab I clicke d" update driver " and a box appeared stating " the best driver is installed"

My laptop is an ADVENT 5421

Hope this is the info you asked me for.

Thankyou

Steve

My Computer

Hi,

I have just completed a destructive reinstall of windows vista onto my laptop ( basically back to factory settings )and all the info in this thread is still the same.....my laptop still keeps telling me that " this computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured "

I think I need some major help......anyone????

My Computer

Hi,

The "Sis191 Ethernet Contoller" is for wired networks, not wireless communications. Make sure there is nothing under Other Devices. Also, many laptops and netbooks come with a switch to turn off wireless to save battery power, so very carefully check the whole outside of your laptop to make sure you have not just switched it off by accident.

If this is not the problem, please tell me the model of your wireless card if you know it, and use Speccy to send me your motherboard or chipset (same thing) model number. Speccy

Hi Richard,

All sorted now.

Thankyou for your infomation as this has helped me sort this problem out.

There was no physical switches on the laptop to switch the wireless card on but I did some research on the make and model of the laptop and discovered that if I hold both the functio and f10 buttons at the same time this finds the wireless card enables it and installs software etc and now all is fine.

Thankyou for your help and also I now have a laptop that works faster etc as I have formatted it having backed up all my data.

Thankyou again

Steve
