I can not access the internet with any of three browsers, IE8, Chrome or Firefox. It says I have a strong wifi signal and that I am connected. The error message says that I cannot access teh server. Our wifi is not encrypted. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi -

I'd like to see some system information, please.

This app utilizes Windows Management Instrumentation along with other commands to tell us more about your wifi. Please download the EXE app, save to Documents. Then RIGHT-click on the EXE icon, select "Run as Administrator" -

http://jcgriff2.com/0x2/netsh_lan_wlan_01-12-2010_jcgriff2_.exe

2 Notepads will open - one behind the other. Save both as text files.

Also run msinfo32 and save as NFO file (default file extension) -
START | type msinfo32 | save as NFO file

Zip up the 2 text files + the NFO file and attach to your next post.

In the interim, boot into SAFEMODE w/ Networking and test Internet there. Tap F8 key repeatedly during boot-up.

Are you able to connect to the network at all, i.e., INTRA-net ("Local Only")?

Regards. . .

Yes, the app can be copied onto USB, then in to the system with the problems, then the output copied back out.

Did you try SAFEMODE w/ Networking?

What about INTRA-net connection - do you get "local only"?

I started the computer in safe mode with networking. Now it says that windows cannot view any networks. This is even though we have 4 to 5 that are visible all the time.

My Computer

Is this a possible solution: A couple of months ago I left the country on business. When I returned my college aged son had unencrypted our wifi network saying it was slowing down our network. I went in and unencrypted the computer that I am now having problems with. I recently had to do a system restore and I am wondering if I may have turned th epassword back on. Now I do not know how to get to the screen where I can turn the encryption off again if indeed this is the problem with this computer and the wireless network.

My Computer

If encrypted, it would ask for key, possibly SSID, depending.

Can you connect with Ethernet cable?
