Lets start here.
Open Device Manager and see if there are any red x's or yellow flags next to your network adapter. Next, open a command prompt, Windows Key + R, type cmd and then type the following without the quotes and paste all the results back here, "ipconfig /all". Also check, open IE, click Tools, Internet Options, Connection Tab and then the LAN Tab and in the window that opens make sure that all the check boxes are clear, if not clear them and close IE and re-open IE.

Hi Derek and welcome to Vista Forums

Refer to your router manual and enter the router settings/configuration. Set the Primary and Secondary DNS Addresses to 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.222 respectively. These are OpenDNS name servers.

My Computer

Click on Start=> Run type CMD to open a command prompt.
In the command prompt type the following commands:

To Reset WINSOCK entries type: netsh Winsock reset catalog and press enter

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Then restart your pc

If that doesn't fix it try the Fixit in this location.

Seeing as how this was the top Google result for the exact problem I was experiencing and I spent 4+ hours researching the issue which led to its resolution, I registered to post this fix:

The issue, for me, was my adapter's driver. I had an old driver. My Atheros wireless adapter would not recognize WPA2 security. There were two options: Log in to my router and change my security to WEP (and slowing my speed in the process) or update my drivers. After searching for quite some time, I found my drivers here (of course, your adapter might be a different one):

Quick tip: Atheros AR5007 wifi and Linksys routers - Roy Tanck's weblog

TL;DR: Update your drivers or use WEP security.

Once again, this is thread is from almost 2 years ago. OP is far far away now.

But thanks for the help.
