Hello mates. i was hoping some off you more enlightened folks could help me with my computer issue. I have a hp dv5 laptop with vistax64. So basically i am trying to connect to the internet via wireless router. I have a netgear router, and when i plug it in with the Ethernet cord it works fine. but when i try to connect it via wireless, first its identifying.....then it says multiple networks found (for about 2 seconds) then it switches to unidentified network. So basically its connecting half way or something. but the blue line doesnt go to my internet and i cant connect. my sisters laptop is also in the house and she can connect with no problem......also this is my first post on vista forums so if i did not explain clear enough or put enough of my specs up. please let me know. and also any help is very appreciated. thanks again!!

and it says local access only as well. Thanks!

Could you Right Click your Network Icon in the System tray and click Diagnose then post back what the issue is

so i clicked diagnose and repair and this is the result.
Three options came up.

1. a problem with your network router or broadband modem might be preventing an internet connection. Unplug and try again. so i did this before and no help here.

2. automatic get new adress. have pressed many times. no help either.

3. reset the network adapter. no help here.

thanks. i dont know if that info helps much

Okay could you unplug your Router for 15 minutes and Plug it back in again and then using your computer follow these Steps:

Flush DNS Cache and restore HOSTS file

Copy and paste the following into notepad and save it as a batch file (.bat)

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Then run this batch file as an administrator.

Be warned that your computer will restart after the Process has finished and the File will be deleted from your Computer

Hope This Helps,
Josh

I think i have unless i am doing something wrong.
in the device manager, under network adapters there is a list of 4 things.

- Atheros AR5007 802.11 b/g WiFi Adapter

-Microsoft 6to4 Adapter

-Microsoft 6to4 Adapter #2

-Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller

also there seems to be something wrong with both the 6to4 adapters. It says " This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I dont know if the problem starts here but any feedback would be well appreciated. thanks!

It's good it's workgroup - if domain, that would almost certainly be at least part of the reason (it would be reason enough on its own) and fixing that might mess up the machine for use at the office.

Try setting up a specific internet connection (I assume it's broadband so a broadband connection) as opposed to trying to go through the local connection. Then while connected to the local connection, also connect to the new internet connection and see if that works. You'll need to configure the internet connection properly to connect but I think the default settings will mostly work except you need the proper router and ISP addresses (but you should have those). Yes, you'll have two connections running simultaneously but that's how my own network worked (and the only way I could get it to work) until about 3 weeks ago when the new modem I got from the ISP connected automatically through the local connection.

I hope this helps.

I have a workgroup and i think this could work. but i was wondering if someone could walk me through this advice, because i dont get how to use a specific internet connection. and i dont know what configuring the internet connection properly means. and as well i dont know what he means by proper router and ISP addresses. haha any help would be great thanks!

Okay could you please Right Click All of those and click Uninstall After that Restart your Computer Imediately and then check your Connection

Also you may need to enter your Router Security Key (WEP Key ... ETC)

Hope This Helps,
Josh

My Computer

So i have uninstalled all four. Then i restarted my computer. And the computer automatically reinstalled both the -Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter and the -Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller. After the installations i tried to connect to the internet wirelessly and the same problem still exists. Unidentified Network, Access Local Only.

I have to admit I am almost Stumped on this situation :( But I will try whatever I can to fix this for you

Does your Network Work in Safe mode with Networking?

If you haven't tried please follow :

Boot into safe mode:

1. Save any work and close all open windows
2. Press Alt+F4
3. Select Restart in the drop down menu and press ok
4. When your computer has shutdown and is just starting to boot again (after the BIOS screen that usually has the manufacturer’s logo on it) press F8
5. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode With Networking and press enter

Many Thanks,
Josh
