broadband connection dropping out

hi everyone its me again

I thought i had cured my problem of broadband signal dropping out, but it happened again 10 minutes ago and when it came back on my broadband speed was very low
i.e. 80kbps. After a few minutes i tested it again and the speed was back to normal
which is not very fast i.e. 736kbps.
Can anyone tell me why my speed is up and down.
Would it run better if i used an ethernet cable instead of wireless and can i use a small extension to move it nearer my computer. Is their any thing else I can do.

regards calmat

hello shadowjk

can you explain No.3 instruction (run the attached file as administrator)

calmat

Hi calmat,

Wasn't this explained in the network posting thread where you posted the question and I provided more detailed instructions with pictures? Are you still having problems? Please explain what the problem is now as I thought the problem with doing it was resolved with that other explanation.

BTW, the IPCONFIG/ALL seems to be fine from what you sent (you missed some of the beginning). If you want to be certain, then please upload an image from the very beginning at least up to the point where the one you sent starts.

Thanks.

hello shadowjk

I think I got it right this time I have uploaded a 2 part file, the problem is that after I completed this my broadband connection dropped again and my speed was down to zero, it has now come up to its normal speed could this have happened because
I used the dns flush cache file

regards calmat

My Computer

Hi calmat,

First, thanks for the full IPCONFIG/ALL screenshots. We'll get back to you once we've had a chance to analyze them.

The next step is to complete step 3 in the posting instructions - which includes more than just flushing the DNS cache. If what I provided in that thread didn't explain things enough to allow you to do it, then please explain where things are going wrong or what you still don't understand and we'll try to clarify it.

Flushing the DNS cache can sometimes momentarily slow down the connection (since it doesn't have the cache), but it doesn't usually occur after several minutes of activity (like how long it took you to post the two screenshots) and then last for very long at all - if it's even noticeable (and I sincerely doubt it would drop you to zero). It may have been partially involved, but nowhere near to that extent. Something else is involved and that's what we're trying to find and fix. Once you've done step 3, that will eliminate a number of possible causes and we can move on to testing other alternatives.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

hi lorien
thanks for your reply
After i uploaded that 2 part file to you i downloaded the FLUSH_DNS_RESTORE_HOSTS_FILE.bat and followed your instructions and my computer did switch off and restart so did i do this right.
It was after this that my connection dropped out and when it connected again
that the speed was non existant.
After i followed no. 3 instruction i downloaded it again and kept in my download folder to be used again, is this ok or should i delete it

can you tell me me what you mean when you say in your reply that no. 3 instruction does more than flush the cache because your instructions does not tell me to do any more than
run the file which will flush the cache

If you set that to obtain an IP address automatically and go to services and set DHCP Client to start Automatically buy highlighting it and right click, properties, start up.
Then click Dependencies and make sure all have started.
It will try to find the best connection for you.
