k, so im using 3g wireless broadband on a desktp, not a good idea i have come to know, i plan to install 2 more gb of ram, and a new graphics card this weekend. if my understanding is correct, this is a pretty simple task to do, untill then is there any thing i can do to speed things up? i have utlizd all the steps to optmizn my speed, other than adding more ram and what not, basicly what can i do for free at the moment?

A ram increase will not improve your wireless performance sorry.
I used to use a 3G wireless and the only thing that I found that would speed it up was to get closer to the ISP's server.
Slight signal improvements were made by using an aerial but they really only made it more stable not faster
If you mainly use your computer at home I would recommend Ethernet Cable
Mods will most likely move this thread to the correct place.

Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset.

Ethernet is a cable with a plug on that looks like a phone plug. It connects straight from your modem to your computer. Your modem connects straight to a cable(wire) from your ISP. I think the only thing faster than a wire is a fiber optic cable.
There are some tricks you can do to improve the signal strength which may give slightly faster speed. If you have a laptop and complain to your ISP they will tell you to come in and check it. But as their aerial is normally on top of the building they work out of, when you go there it will be a good signal as it is all about range and distance from their server.
There are some simple aerials you can make but they are only useful if you work in the same place all the time. A lot are made from clothes hangers.

Hi Jasond19,

I think ilikefree's advice is good & sound.
You will get the efficiency by connecting by Ethrenet direct from you computer.
The ethernet /usb connectors probably will cost more than a new Ethernet cable (some uk prices).

Your speed as ilikefree points out, is only as good as the type of telephone cabling that will determine speed.

Oh! For 'fibre optic'.

3G is really not made for PCs. Maybe 4G will improve the situation, but then you are still faced with the high cost per Megabyte that the carriers charge.

You should get a DSL 3000 or DSL 6000 from your phone company. They will give you a modem to which you can attach with either an ethernet cable of attach a router to where you can attach with the WiFi.
