Solved No Internet Connection - Only Limited Access

My daughter has a Compaq Presario laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit. Our internet was restored this morning by our ISP after storms this weekend. We have three other laptops in the house, and they all operate Windows 7. The computers with 7 on them connected to the router and the internet just fine. The Compaq will only connect to the network with limited access, no internet. We have run all of the troubleshooting and help. We have rebooted the modem twice. The computer will not connect past the router wirelessly. We connected the computer to the router with the ethernet cord, and everything connected fine. Could something have happened to the network adapter in the computer during the storm? Is there something to update? Is there an update to remove? Please help. This is very irritating and time-consuming.

Hello bhostetter and welcome to the forums

Can you do the following for me please:

IPCONFIG

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. Right click on cmd and select Run as administrator
4. When command prompt opens, type:

ipconfig /all

Note   Note
There's a space between the ipconfig and the /all

Then take a few screenshots of the displayed information and attach them with your next post

Device Manager

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type Device Manager and open it
3. Expand the Network adapters category and you should see an entry along the lines of this:

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

4. Right click on it and select Update Driver Software...

It has been fixed. When the cable company came out on Monday, they configured the router only for the newer computers. They set if for a WPA2 instead of a WEP. They fixed it last night. Thanks though.

I have almost same issue. Tried to print a coupon the other day, action started a download of a coupon printer program, that Vista tried to stop. I hurriedly agreed to the selection to stop web access or something like that. Now, I cannot access my internet, which is via AT&T aircard in a modem. It comes up Limited connectivity. I tried to restore system back a day, but that does not help. Any ideas?
