No wireless connection

My computer has not been picking up a wireless connection. I can connect to the internet when plugged in by ethernet. Yesterday I went to the device manager and viewed my wireless driver and the yellow triangle with exclamation point was there. I went to Sony because my laptop is a VAIO and downloaded the updates it listed for my driver and software. This removed the yellow triangle but I still don't have connectivity by wireless. Please help.

Aah okay, but shouldn't you explain that with the post then? If I wasn't a techie then I'd go ahead and uninstall the USB driver that I was instructed to

I uninstalled and when I restarted it updated the driver software and the driver is already back in the device manager without me re-installing it. Now what?

I do not have a wireless connection even after I uninstalled the driver. It says no wireless connection can be found.

I will troubleshoot as the previous post asks and let you know what I find. Can you tell me in advance what to try next if the troubleshooting doesn't help?

My wifi switch is on. This problem originated from when computer didn't hibernate properly which led to chkdsk always appearing at startup and no wireless connection. I resolved the chkdsk and hibernate issues (had a virus) but still no internet unless use ethernet. SO basically are you saying that driver and software issues are the typical problem?

I am not at my computer right now but when I was in Netweork and Sharing Center, I highkighted my wireless adapter and clicked diagnose at the top and it said No wireless capability and told me to turn my wireless switch on but it was already on. Is there a way for me to check that it really is on ignoring that the switch is to the on position and light is lit?

One possibility is that is is turned off on Windows

Click start then search for Windows Mobility centre , Open it then click Turn wireless network Off - This will turn it off , then Click it again to turn it on
