    No LAN

Hello, I have a TOSHIBA Satellite A205 and my aunt game me this computer as a gift, and for some reason it doesn't have LAN. I cannot connect via Ethernet, and I have tried installing drivers, but I can't find any that seem to work.

Can i please get some assistance please?

    Re: No LAN

If you don't have a built-in "Network Adapter" drivers won't work. You can buy a "usb ethernet adapter", or set up a wireless network if you have a wireless router.

Well, my computer has the Ethernet port on the side. Why wouldn't Toshiba install a network adapter but put a port in?

Hi Nairaz and welcome to Vista Forums

The Toshiba Satellite A205 series utilises a Marvell Yukon network controller. See Marvell - Support

    Re: No LAN

I'm not sure how to install the driver, but under Device Manager->Network Adapters the only thing that is visible is the wireless adapter, nothing else. According to the redme on the download it says 3.1 Installing the Driver
If the operating system cannot find a driver for the adapter, it is installed
as "Ethernet Controller" under "Other Devices" in the "Device Manager".
In this case, you must perform a driver update to install the driver.
For details, see the next section.
    3.2 Updating the Driver
    To update the driver:

    1. On the desktop, right-click on MY COMPUTER.
    2. Select MANAGE.
    3. In the "Device Manager", double-click your adapter.
    4. Select DRIVER.
    5. Click UPDATE DRIVER...
    6. Follow the instructions given by the operating system to locate the
    driver.
    7. If the driver which is found to be the latest is not the one you want to
install, select the check box "Install one of the other drivers".
    8. Click NEXT.
    9. From the driver list, select the driver to be installed.
    10. Click NEXT.
    11. If a message is displayed saying the driver is not digitally signed by
    Microsoft, click YES.
    12. Click FINISH to complete the installation.

NOTE: The latest version of the driver is available for download from our
    web site.

    Unsure of what to do.

I can't really help you here, (no experience in these matters) but I just wanted to point out that if you tried to post a link there it didn't work. If you weren't trying to, it'd probably help if you did post a link directly to whatever site sells that piece of hardware that you're looking at. It's easier for us if you do that so we don't have to Google around trying to find the exact device you're talking about
