Network/IP Fail 'Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (vista)

Hey,
hope someone can help. Me and my wife just moved into a new apartment and got subscribed to a new broadband provider. They sent us through a cisco router (model no.epc2425) and we created a WPA2-Personel secure network, with encryption type TKIP. I have connected my macbook to it, my iphone to it, and my wifes samsung netbook (running Windows 7) but I cannot connect my laptop running vista to the internet. I've tried playing around with different network security and could connect to it on WEP - but I didnt want to keep it on that and I couldn't connect the netbook. The rest of the security types and encryption types have the same response.
The computer connects to the network with an excellent signal, but it is the only computer that cannot connect to the internet through this network. I never had a problem like this with this computer and have tried it on other networks.
When I run windows network diagnostics it says...
'Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (193.150.193.150)'
Network diagnostics pinged the remote but did not receive a response.'

When I try to automatically get a new IP setting for network adapter it tries to repair but then says 'there still seems to be a problem with your connection'. Likewise when i click 'reset the network adapter' the repair leads back to cannot communicate with primary DNS server.

I have tried a wired connection, router to computer, but as soon as I plug it in I get the message
'Windows has detected and IP address conflict' - and it once again connects to the network but not to the internet.

Oh, and I don't know if this makes any difference, but this is a British computer and I moved to Sweden, obviously using a Swedish ISP...

i used to have this problem, you need to set the network adaptor to all automatic, your new cisco router uses uPnP so your IP conflict is probably a result of your unconnected laptop trying to connect to the same IP address as another PC on your network (eg/ 192.168.0.5 would be used by your iPhone, but your laptop has reserved that IP address for itself), to fix this, go to network and sharing center, navigate to adaptor settings on the left pane, right click the wireless card and choose properties>IPv4 properties, set everything to automatic, including all things in other tabs and click advanced and make sure DHCP is enabled on that card.

Reboot and try again :)

Hi thanks for getting back to me!

I've had a look at the wireless card (it's Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter) and on the IPv4 properties it's already on 'obtain and IP address automatically & obtain DNS server automatically' as well as 'automatic private IP address' in one of the tabs.

In advanced it says DHCP enabled in the IP addresses box.
The only thing that could be automatic but itsn't here is 'automatic metric' which is in the advanced TCP/IP settings. At the moment that is unticked and displays 4250 - if i tick the box it displays nothing. Should I try this?

Bumping this as I have still had no joy with this computer connecting to the network and have tried to follow the advice but I'm either reading it completely wrong or it's just not working at all.
Also, now my computer won't connect to a wireless network at all, let alone get online. Now when I plug in a ethernet cable to the router from the computer a message flashes up saying "Windows has detected an IP address conflict, another computer on this network has the same IP address" and I then am connected to the unidentified local network, which again doesn't get online!

Please help someone!! :(

Hi, have you attempted to DNS flush and ip renew yet. This would let it auto reset itself , i believe.
Flush the dns using elevated command prompt , Start, all programs, accessories, command prompt ( right click this ) This opens up command prompt for admin if you right click and select run as admin. Then do this : type in ipconfig /flushdns
Once that is done, then type this in. type in ipconfig /renew.. notice the spaces. this will reset your ip connection. After you do this. Post back results please.

Ok, i've flushed and tried to renew ip in command prompt. On the flush I got "successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache", then when I tried to renew it said "windows IP configuration

No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection while it has its media disconnected.
An error occurred while renewing Local Area Connection: Element not found"

Oh, and I don't know if this makes any difference, but this is a British computer and I moved to Sweden, obviously using a Swedish ISP...

At bottom of your first post the above was that ^^^^ above. My thinking is that the diagnostics you ran seems to show your network cards and you have drivers installed, but, That ISP you are using is having an issue for some reason with the one computer, have you contacted them for any help and if so, what did they suggest ?
Is is just the one computer ? I am wondering if its network cards have failed ?
Look in your services and check that the networking service are in fact enabled. Go to start, run, type services.msc and take a peek at those services. You will see about 3 or 4 services that deal with networking.

I haven't contacted the ISP no, that can be something I can look into next.
It's just this one computer - I had managed to connect to the internet on this computer using a wireless mobile broadband dongle that my wife had, and did this as recent as a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if doing that would still require the full use of all network cards? However that is now cancelled as we can't afford to run two ISP's (and it wasn't as quick as our normal connection), we are now just using our wireless router which network & sharing center can see and shows as full signal but can't connect to.

Running services shows:
Start Up Type Status Log On As
Network Access Protection Agent Manual (blank) Network Service
Network Connections Manual Started Local System
Network List Service Auto Started Local Service
Network Location Awareness Auto Started Network Service
Network Store Interface Service Auto Started Local Service

Some more info that may or may not be important from here...
Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service, Routing and Remote Access, SQL Server Active Directory Helper are all disabled.
The PnP- X IP Bus Ennumerator is on auto but says delayed (it says it discovers network connected devices using the ssdp/ws discovery protocols and gives them presence in PnP)
Also showing auto but delayed are:
TPM base services*
windows media center service launcher*
background intelligent transfer service
KtmRm for Distributed Transaction Coordinator
Security Center
Windows media player network sharing service
Windows Update

Though all of these 'delayed' services are started now except the first two *

Don't know if any of that points in any particular kind of direction...

This is a head scratcher for sure, have you hardwired to the router and got internet that way versus trying wireless ?

I've tried it yeah. Still can't get internet access. The local network wired connection gives me nothing except an unidentified network, and as I said I can't connect at all to the wireless network though I can see it.
I'm a bit of a novice, so I don't know if theres a particular method of connecting to the net through a wired method?

I haven't mentioned that I also have a Xbox 360 wired to my router. This shouldn't be a problem as I've added this without problems for the Xbox a couple of months after my first problems with the laptop, though this is I assume something else taking up an IP address.
Just for the record, thats 1 macbook, i samsung netbook, 2 iphones & a xbox 360 all working fine on the wireless network - and the 1 samsung laptop just not being interested...

Thanks, was trying to see the connections available, from the specs i am still having hard time telling whether you can connect a ethernet cable to it and the router ? I believe you can, can you hardwire it to the router and see if you can get on the internet that way ?

It's got an ethernet connection yeah and I have tried to hardwire to the router. Thats when I see the local area connection (though it says unidentified) and I can't connect to the internet through it :S
Yesterday when I plugged in the ethernet cable it was saying a message "Windows has detected an IP address conflict, another computer on this network has the same IP address", but now its not saying that...

Did your router come with a setup dvd , Use it with the computer hardwired and see if that does the trick, seems as if that computer has not been set up with the router. All routers come with a set up dvd to use .
