PC and router won't connect

System info:
HP Pavilion dv5 notebook
Vista 64 Service Pack 2
WiFI adapter:Atheros AR5007 802.1b/g
(driver recently updated)
(using IPV 4 exclusively) IPV 6 disabled
Router: Cisco model DDR2200-CL
firmware updated

This is a first time set-up;
I have what seems to be a problem with my HP notebook connecting
to my newly installed router. The PC recognizes and identifies the router
but will not accept the passphrase number. Connecting my Ipad (2) to this
router was no problem at all. This PC, however, connects flawlessly to other WIFI sources. The router/modem combo was part of an upgrade package by Century Link which also controls TV connections. The installation field tech seemd knowledgeable and spent considerable time trying to resolve the problem. Also, all PC security levels were purposely lowered or disabled to try and make the connection. When I called tech support from the hub, they also tried on their end to make the router talk to the PC. They said they didn't have any notes in their database regarding Vista 64 and Cisco compatibility issues. All internet addresses and doc numbers seem to verify correctly.

Could there be something within vista64 which is blocking the connection?
Appreciate any input.

Hello.. are you saying that while wired to router and having the interface page open , that it will not let you sign in using passcode ? Is it possible to use IPad and sign in and change the passcode to a default or to reset to default settings ?

I'm having a problem with the use of "PC" and "notebook". Does the user have a PC as well as a notebook?

Try setting up youre own security settings.

Plug your laptop straight into the router, then set up a new wpa security key.

It's a good chance that you have the wrong secrity type... i.e wpa vs wpa2. Your dv5 might not auto select the proper type.

Hi and thanks. I'm saying that given the security code I was assigned by Century Link,
The notebook won't connect via their pass phrase. Also, the notebook is not physically connected via Ethernet cable when I try to connect.

Thanks I'll call their (century link) tech support and try to work it out. Your input makes sense.

Basically, you need to be wired and reset everything and start over, most routers have a reset button.

It should be a 5min fix, if i can see the manual.
Manuals here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/at_home/IPTV/4036168_A.pdf

It is a 5min fix... which starts about pg 19.
