sfc causes an internet connection problem

Hello!

I have a problem.
I ran sfc /scannow on my vista 32. Now it won't connect to the internet. (I can't restore the computer, because there is no restoration point any more.)

I tried to add a new connection, but the connection wizard doesn't work.
When I clicked "diagnose problem" it said that there is something wrong with the driver for the neetwork interface controller. I updated it, but it didn't help.

The thing is,
that internet still WORKS ON THE SAME COMPUTER, WHEN I BOOT IT FROM THE UBUNTU CD (so there can't be any hardware problem).

Does anybody have any clue???

Welcome
If you have not left out any information, it appears that the SFC made change that is causing this problem.
Run SFC, again and if there are repairs that cannot be made, run it two more times.
If you still do not have internet connection, run a repair install with your Vista CD

Hello Richard, thank you for your immediate answer.

Unfortunately, rerunning sfc does not change anything :( and I can't repair install windows (I tried it years ago and it ended up in an error).
I was hoping for some less drastic solution then reinstalling OS, because this would take a lot of time and work.

However, I checked the diagnostic diary box and got the following error number and description:

Error 815: The broadband neetwork connection could not be established on your computer because the remote server is not responding. This could be caused by an invalid value for the 'service name' field for this connection. Please contact your internet service provider and inquire about the correct value for this field and update it in the connection properties.

I will try that tomorrow. But since ubuntu uses the same connection (I didn't have to install any new connection, when I ran it) - I am not sure if this is really the cause ...

Hmm ... the problem is still not solved. I figured out, that the dhcp client service is stopped and I can't start it (error 1168: element not found). I searched for the solution in the internet and typed the following in my command prompt:
NET LOCALGROUP administrators "NT Authority\LocalService" add
netsh winsock reset catalog
It worked but it didn't help to start my dhcp.

Does anybody have any idea how to repair this?
