Internet Keeps Dropping Out

    Internet Keeps Dropping Out

    Gday fellas

    Steps I have taken to try and isolate the problem.

    1. Isolation test
    2. Swapped Routers (I have a brand new one as a spare)
    3. Put another new ethernet cable in
    4. Put a new telephone line in from Router to the line
    5. Flushed the dns
    6. Renewed the dns
    7. Done a total shutdown, given the PC time to stop.
    8. Reported it to my ISP

    And yet my Internet keeps dropping out, this been happening more frequently over the past 48 hours.

    My connection can last for 2 minutes, 4 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and when I am in bed any of the above or for up to a WHOLE hour.

    Up until the internet started dropping out on a regular basis, I had changed nothing, (why fix what isn't broken) added no new programmes.



    At the moment I am averaging 3 minutes online before being booted off.

    I am at a total loss as to why this keeps happening, I have tried everything I know of to rectify the problem.

    NB. It is happening all during the day and night, so it has nothing to do with peak hour internet traffic.

    The only thing I have yet to try is a reinstall of the ethernet drivers. That is next on the list.

    Any suggestions a fix? Or a cause as to why this keeps happening?

    Oh I live in Australia and I believe copper wiring is used for telephone lines here.

    Since you have mentioned your router a couple of times, are you talking about dropped internet on a secondary computer that's connected wirelessly? If so, does the computer with the primary connection experience this problem?

    Is your router losing the internet connection or is the connection lost between your computer and the router? These are 2 totally different things.

    I am not a fan of wireless connections, so everything is hardwired.

    To answer your question Roy the router is losing the connection.

    Oh I also forget to mention I updated the ethernet drivers.

    If your router is losing connection then get your isp to do a line check. Has there been bad weather where you are at the moment?

    Have you tried disabling add-ons in IE?

    Sometimes, deleting the browsing history fixes problems.

    If you use something like FireFox, do you get the same problem?

    We've been focusing on the hardware side.

    We've been focusing on the hardware side.
    I don't necessarily have to have any browser open when the internet drops, although when I do I use FireFox.

    I have been on the phome with my ISP when I lose connection, asked them do I appear offline?, however the answer is always no by them, and sometimes the dropout is less than 60 seconds, so I have reconnected.

    So why the fuss you may ask? I play Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne on Battlenet, I ladder and every disconnection is counted as a loss. (I am aware it is only a game), however it is the frustration of starting a game and being disconnected 2, 5 minutes or even right at the last minute when a win is imminent is annoying the hell out of me.

    Have you checked the cables going into your house for damage. Have you added any new phones or sockets to your phone network. Does your phone loose connection at the same time (no dial tone).

    Yeh, if the internet is dropping without using a browser, it sounds like a hardware problem.

    Here we are not allowed to check for line damage outside, that is the monopolizers of all of Australia's telecommunications job Telstra aka The Bogpond.

    And no to the last questions, after I done the isolation test's and plugged back in the phone, there isn't even a little white noise on the line. Also no again to new socket's.

    I requested a level 3 call out ( a Telstra technician ) comes out to the home to check the outside for line damage, and if necessary will also come into the home.

    Tuesday I received a call from my ISP, confirming the call out, and out of no where the Rep said, "could be the server maintenance we are doing, if it gets better give us a call, and cancel the Telstra guy"

    So after all of that I have now been stable online for the past 24 hours, it appears the maintenance they were performing was the cause
