Can't connect to wired network (but can get on wireless no prob)

Okay, so I've got a new laptop. Its an ASUS G50VT 2.3 dual core. I'm running vista home premium. I can connect to wireless networks no problem, but for some reason, I can't get onto the net using a direct cable. I've gone through the network wizard and am still having problems. As far as I know, the cord is good (I tested it using my other PC) and haven't had any problems getting on otherwise.

Any input would be appreciated. Trying to increase my bandwidth as much as possible.

Thanks!

Hi Cory.

Is the modem newer than the laptop?

Its always good to check the ASUS website for new internet drivers.

You will probably find that a wireless and a wired connection use different devices on mine its.

Wireless - Fujitsu Siemens Computers WLAN 802.11b/g (SiS163u)

Wired - Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

Look in Device Manager as they are both ok.
