Solved Vista - No Internet problems

Hi,

I would appreciate any help / advice. Please note I only have very basic knowledge of PC's. I have a 4 year old PC OS – Vista 64 bit.
I use a TP Link WN722N USB wireless adapter to connect to the internet. However, for the past couple of days I have not been able to gain any Internet access Wireless or through an Ethernet cable. The router still works as I have other connections on it. The TP link Utility appears to see the wireless connection as it details signal strength but the network icon has a red cross over it. The trigger to the loss could have been caused by loss of power to router or a Registry Clean I completed.

If I go into Network Adapters I have:
> Nvidia nForce /10/100Mbps Ethernet
> TP Link Mpbs Wireless Lite N Adapter

Both adapters don't show an error. I have tried everything detailed on a google search including resetting TCP/ IP Stack, check disk, disabling network adapters and re-setting the router.

Here is my Config All screen shot as I believe that will help. Any advice to get me back on line would be really appreciated.

Hi Allsaints79,

In addition, go to safe mode with networking and check if the Ethernet cable connects to internet.

Please use the following link for detailed instructions to go safe mode with networking: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/123496-safe-mode.html

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.
Im afraid I don't have a system restore point.
I have started the machine in safe mode and it will not connect via an Ethernet cable.

Any more ideas?

Hi,

Further to this someone suggested I check Windows > System32 > drivers > etc > host file. In googling the relevance of this Spy Bot came up in several search results. I have remembered now that upon turning the machine on last week it would freeze at start up while it was loading start-up programmes. Someone recommended entering msconfig and disabling start-up items to see what was causing it to freeze. Despite having uninstalled Spy Bot previously it was in the start-up list. Disabling it stopped the PC freezing, but I have not had internet access since.

Anyone any ideas?

thanks in advance

Hi Allsaints79,

In addition, also check if there are any link lights at the back of the computer, where the Ethernet cable is connected.

Also go to BIOS and check if there are any link lights.

Please post back with the results.

Hi Madhur,

If I plug an ethernet cable in I get a green link light on the Router and one at the back of the machine. Still no internet though.

I am aware how to enter the Bios but how do I check Link Lights within there?

thanks for your advice
