Connected to wireless network, but browsers won't load

Hey all, I'm new here, but was hoping someone could help me out a bit.

I'm in college and too broke to afford my own computer, a friend was nice enough to bring over her old laptop for me to use for assignments and such. This thing is definitely old and sluggish, but I was able to connect to the secured wireless network I've set up in my dorm. However, any time I open a browser (if the application actually starts up, that is), it is apparently unable to load even Google. I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer (perish the thought), all to no avail.

Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate any help, I'm used to Mac OS X with just a little experience with Win7...I'm out of my element here, haha.

Thanks in advance.

Hi jdholland93,

Let’s try to do few troubleshooting steps on the computer to check if the issue gets fixed.
1. Go to safe mode with networking and check if you are able to connect to internet. Please use the following link for detailed instructions to go safe mode with networking: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/123496-safe-mode.html
2. If you are able to connect to internet in safe mode with networking, then try clean boot. Please use the following link for detailed instructions to perform clean boot: How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista or Windows 7

Please post back with the results.
