Internet Access is Local Only

I recently switched to AT&T as my internet provider and when I set up the new router my phone was able to connect, and so was my xbox (that's how I'm on the forum) however my laptop will not. I've already gone into the registry and set it up so DHCP is enabled, I've already unchecked "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), I've already gone into the properties of TCP/IPv4 and set the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and preffered DNS server to match what was shown in my command prompt. I've also gone into the device management menu and uninstalled then reinstalled the network adapter. I have no idea what else to try. I'm not exactly sure if I used all the correct terms above, but I'm really hoping that made sense and someone can help. I'm about ready to throw my laptop against the wall.

A Vista pc shouldn't need any fiddling to get it to connect to a router - in fact, it's generally best to leave everything at defaults to avoid complicating things.

It's not clear from your post if you are talking about ethernet, wireless or both. Without knowing that, it's difficult to give detailed advice but there are a couple of "cure-all" things you can try.

The first thing to do is put everything back to the defaults on that pc. Then try connecting via ethernet and with no other network devices switched-on or connected to that router. If that doesn't work - try resetting the router (this will help if the problem is an IP conflict - i.e. the router trying to connect to two or more devices using the same IP address on your network). If that doesn't help, the problem is most like with your pc and the most likely reason - given your recent change to a new ISP - is that the DNS cache is no longer matching. That's easy to cure, thankfully. Open a command prompt and type

ipconfig /flushdns

... and press the enter key.

Try connecting again - if it still doesn't work, reboot the pc and have another go.
