Hello,

I need help with a home networking file sharing problem. There are two PCs on the network – one running Windows 7 and the other running Vista home premium 64.
I’m trying to reconfigure from a public network, requiringpassword protected sharing to a private network without password protectedsharing.

The share I’m having trouble with is my Owner folder on theVista PC. When I access it from the Windows 7 PC I get the following message:
Windows cannot access \\OWNER-PC\Owner: You do not have permission to access \\OWNER-PC\Owner. Contact your networkadministrator to request access.
All the other shares I’ve set up work just fine—two USBdrives and an external hard drive.

My settings for each PC follow:

Vista PC:
Workgroup Name: WORKGROUP
Network Sharing Center settings:
Private Network
Network discovery: On
File sharing: On
Public folder sharing: Off
Printer sharing: On
Password protected sharing: Off
Media sharing: Off
Windows 7 PC:
Workgroup Name: WORKGROUP
Advanced Sharing settings:
Home Network
Network discovery: On
File & printer sharing: On
Public folder sharing: Off
Media sharing: On
File sharing connections: 128-bit encryption
Password protected sharing: Off
HomeGroup connections: Allow Windows to manage homegroupconnections

I set up all file sharing on the Vista machine the sameway:
Right clicked the folder
Selected properties
Selected the sharing tab
Selected Advanced sharing
Checked share this folder
Selected Permissions
Set group or user names to Everyone
Set permissions for Everyone to Allow Full Control
Applied the changes
OK & Close
What’s going on here? What am I missing?

Other strange things:

If I try to go back and reset as apublic network requiring password protected sharing, I now get the same errormessage as shown above for the \\OWNER-PC\Ownershare.

Unsharing the Ownerfolder, apparrently, has a problem too. While there is no indication thatit is still shared, I get a message that it can't be unshared because there isat least one active instance of the share's use. None of its subfolders, however, are shared nor is the User folder above it.

I’ve tried everything I know how to do and your suggestionsand instructions would be appreciated.
Thanks…
