New wireless router and no connection

I purchased a new asus wireless router and cannot get it connected to the computer at all it seems not to be even getting the connection from my tower to it. It picks up internet connection from the modem and can give out wifi no problem. I have done a good amount on my own to try and figure it out but am in need from the experts at this point.

Are you connecting wireless or via a wired connection? If wireless can you try a wired connection and see what results you get? Are you able to test your wireless connection on another router? Possibly a friend or relatives?

If wireless what is the make/model of your NIC?
