My OneCare status is "good" (green)- probably not excellent since I have
OneCare's backup turned off. If I were to use the Vista backup instead,
would OneCare know it and give me an "excellent" status?

"Good" is the best you'll get from OneCare, Joe. :-) No, OneCare only knows
about its own backup. It does recognize the Windows Home Server connector, so on
install of OneCare, if it sees it you will be advised to turn off OneCare
backup, but if you later remove the WHS connector, OneCare won't warn you to
turn OneCare backup on.
